I just watched the last episode of Weiss Kruez Gluhen and...
I just watched the last episode of Weiss Kruez Gluhen and...

...I totally broke down.

I kinda spent the whole episode shaking my head and being appalled (sans the first part....I know it's cheesy, but I'd have really liked that as an ending.), but then when it got to the part where Aya's walking along at the end, I really burst into tears.

I just. Hate. The ending.

It just seemed so unnecessary, it wasn't heading that way, and the last episodes ending was so touching...It almost feels like the part at the beginning of the last ep was a taunt, and...is..uh, kinda mean. ._.

It's quite distressing really, especially when it's a long series like this... I suppose I could disregard Gluhen (after all, only the second half was really up to par), or just stop it after the first few mins of ep13. I mean, there's always the 'search out good fanfic continuation' option, but finding something just right straight away is very hard.

Also, I want to stop hating my favourite character. After seeing that I think I'd want to bludgeon him.

I know other people on my flist have seen this series, so I'd really appreciate a responce...and I'm very curious if anyone thinks the opposite to me.

I don't know much about WK, but you've got me all curious. I'm mostly spoiled anyway. What happened? (Feel free to include angry ranting.)
kurenai_tenka: Shinyuu - Aaaaaakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 03:36 am (UTC)
Really? For some reason I thought you did.

Oh, the ranting cometh.

Baaasically, after the nice final boss fight/touchy bondy moments, the second to last ep ends.

The last ep starts with a gorgeous scene of them all together, and it's all bright and hopeful...

....and then Youji wakes up. Seems he's lost his memory.
Well fine, I can deal. The bastard gets married and lives happily ever after, oddly. (Don't get me wrong, I really like Youji, but he's the only one with an ending like that for some reason.)

Flick to Omi...who is....a total bastard. Like really. Something about people being pawns, and just general being deserves of a blunt object to the head.

Aya....being completely emotionally retarded and miserable.

So I think 'well geez, Ken, be my saving grace will ya?' ...and it pans to a sign saying 'prison'. Fantastic. Ken is now in jail, and a total jerk...plus a bit of a nutcase. BUT THE MORAL IS HE STILL HAS FOOTBALL. Jesus.

So, back to Aya. Seems he's a church goer now, randomly killing (semi) bad people then donating fat wads of cash. There's a cute scene with some orphans, how lovely. You start to think it's getting better.

...he walks out onto the street, and a little kid runs out of an alleyway (after a guy gives him the nod), and essentially stabs him. He covers it with his coat, dripping blood along the snowy ground, and essentially dies on the street against a fire hydrant.

Over this last bit, it adds the really fluffy dialogue in the dream!ending, and at the end Aya thinks 'yeah, that'd be nice'. And it runs the credits over him dying there.

Seriously, wtf.
A Figment of My Own Imaginationveleda_k on September 23rd, 2007 03:45 am (UTC)
Ah, yeah, I knew most of that, I just wasn't remembering. That's taking "rocks fall, everybody dies" to the extreme.

There are some good Mamoru/Nagi fics out there, if that would make it hurt less. (Yeah, I read fanfic even though I've only seen a few episodes of the show.)
kurenai_tenka: Enzai (Yura's Artbook)kurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 03:49 am (UTC)
It may do. >_> It's probably the only available pairing now anyway. (Thankyou~~)

And I would recommend it, despite all. And by 'it' I mean the original series...and the OVA. The OVA was very entertaining despite its ridiculous ending.

Gluhen...is fine if you only watch up to 2 mins into the last ep. And can sit through the first half without it actually succeeding in being up to par.
A Figment of My Own Imaginationveleda_k on September 23rd, 2007 04:10 am (UTC)
Eh heh, honestly, I watched about six or so episodes then gave up, deciding that it was the worst anine I had ever seen. Apparently I stopped watching right before Schwartz showed up, which might have kept me watching if they're as cool as everyone says they are.
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 04:18 am (UTC)
XD Oh yee of little faith. I kinda watched the earlier episodes greatly amused at how cracky and cheesy it really was. XD It kinda gets more serious after that, and that's when it gets better.

Schwartz are pretty cool though, yeah. ♥
amaterasu08amaterasu08 on September 23rd, 2007 03:34 am (UTC)
i hated the ending to. it doesn't conclude ANYTHING. >_> they left you hanging as what happened to Aya. I guess they're trying to angle for a 3rd season? x_x but i guess the response from the fans wasn't favorable, so scrap the 3rd season idea.

and Yohji. my gawds. I dont know if i should be happy for him or sad. >_>
kurenai_tenka: Bluecat-Oh Noeskurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 03:38 am (UTC)
I doubt they are, they couldn't make up the team with Youji like that (unless they killed his wife and it pulled him out of it, I guess). I assume Aya died against the fire hydrant. How pathetic and depressing.

Youji....I'm kinda happy for him, but when it comes down to it, it didn't take much to top everyone else's ending. >_>

It was just...BAD.
amaterasu08amaterasu08 on September 23rd, 2007 03:56 am (UTC)
yeah. x_x i think koyasu wanted it to have a special dramatic ending but it got over done. x__x
kurenai_tenka: Beserk-GGkurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 03:59 am (UTC)
And there was a mad Youji fangirl with a gun to his head? x.x

When you put it that way, it's a wonderful basis to start reaaally disliking Koyasu.

Or atleast discrediting him. >_> Both the writer and the artists forsake it! Poor thing.
amaterasu08amaterasu08 on September 23rd, 2007 04:27 am (UTC)
koyasu likes angst, im thinking. and drama. but too much of either is just so BLEH.

and since koyasu's character is aya, he gives him the most angst and drama there is.

although i like the sexiness that is psycho ken. XD
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 04:32 am (UTC)
*laughs* Weeeeell...^^; Under different circumstances, maybe. XD

I suppose that's why Aya doesn't die too, he's Koyasu's own little pet character. XD His..self insert? XD
Actually, he apparently said they're all aspects of his personality. Odd images to be had there.

Angst and drama is all well and good, but when it's out of the blue it's stupid. (And personally, I like it to be solved. ^^;)
amaterasu08amaterasu08 on September 23rd, 2007 04:45 am (UTC)
actually... there were rumors that Aya was really koyasu. I mean the whole concept was a product of koyasu's fevered delusions. xD the clothes, the attitude and the works (ecept for the looks xD) was all koyasu (well.. that's what they say? XD)

so yes, Mary Sue?

personally, i would have liked it better if Aya died with his sister or his friends or whatever. because after all that angst and sadness, he deserved to die more peacefully (and in a better way) i guess. he was down all throughout the series and at the end you die in a street full of happy, bustling commuters? oh jeez.
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 04:57 am (UTC)
He doesn't even warrant a 'Gary Stu' label? XD

I think...thats a bit of a romanticism, I've never seen him in clothes like that (oh, but his plainer ones maybe), not sure if he's that emotionally defunct though. XD

Yeaaah, I was terrified they were all gunna die, but now I'm kind of torn. =/ Two people below have confirmed that in the manga Aya (and Ken) are alive and well though. But I can't really see Koyasu killing his Stu off now I think about it. XD
I'll read it anyway, see if that's any better in terms of continuity...
amaterasu08amaterasu08 on September 23rd, 2007 05:18 am (UTC)
did you get to see a clip of their Weiss Kreuz concert? LOL. it was hilarious. XD Koyasu was all i'm-emo-aya mode (with the trenchcoat!) and the guy doing Omi was in shorts. And i mean short, SHORTS.

after i watched gluhen i stopped following weiss. XD too much angst made me O.o st it. and i crack up whenever i think of koyasu with the red hair and the trenchcoat. XD

Here's Gary Stu

and here's the short shorts XD

kurenai_tenka: Shinyuu - Aaaaaakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 01:02 pm (UTC)
O________o God, that's scary. It possible makes it worse that it's a decent cosplay. NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THE EMO CHARA SING.

*Changes vid* .________0;;; THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. Although the short shorts make it look like a dress, hee~~ XD I'm still getting over the fact that the VA is genuinely male, never mind anything else. ._.

Plus, Koyasu looks SO much younger than I remember him. But isn't this some ten years ago?
amaterasu08: shu eekamaterasu08 on September 23rd, 2007 01:13 pm (UTC)
yes. it is scary. XD i sure dont want to see the emo chara sing. but ic ouldn't help crack up when i see the shorts. XD

im not sure if it was 10 years ago. i think this was between 1999-2001. im not so sure. koyasu's face is a product of science by then. XD
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 05:57 pm (UTC)

ravenbellravenbell on September 23rd, 2007 03:38 am (UTC)
Oh, I hated Gluhen. The first series was lousy, but at least it had a kind of goofy charm to it. This version just felt colder and meaner and the ending was so damn bleak. Really, there was no reason to have it end like that - they didn't build up to it, didn't need it, and didn't deserve it.

To this day I ignore Gluhen entirely and pretend that Weiss are still working in their little flower shop with the old lady.
kurenai_tenka: Hisoka-Flowerykurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 03:41 am (UTC)
Amen to that. >_>

I'm glad people agree with the 'unnecessary' thing. Especially after ep 12. *shakes head* But you put it much better.

I wish that was the case. >_> Or they'd gone ahead with the dream!ending even. Which is essentially the same thing.
*sigh* What a waste of an otherwise good continuity. I mean, I bitched and whined about Gluhen in general, but that was just terrible.
ravenbellravenbell on September 23rd, 2007 03:52 am (UTC)
Well, we'll always have fandom. :)
kurenai_tenka: 124 KuroFaikurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 03:55 am (UTC)
That being one of the main reasons I decided to watch it, yes, I'm trying to keep my hopes up. =)
ravenbellravenbell on September 23rd, 2007 04:00 am (UTC)
If it make you fee any better, Aya and Ken are both reportedly alive and well in the latest Weiss manga spinoff, "Weiss Side B." No word yet on the fates of Yohji and Mamoru, but then I haven't been keeping track.
kurenai_tenka: Hisoka PANTIES. XDkurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 04:04 am (UTC)
Thanks for the info! I have the scanslations on my PC, so I'll have to get to that ASAP.

I'm surprised about Aya though, tch. ._. Youji's story got a close I suppose...and I'm sure Omi's still healthy, even if he is a total bastard now.
Drubyd on September 23rd, 2007 04:05 am (UTC)
Haha, you beat me to it.

Also, Koyasu has a new anime coming out... "Velvet Underworld". Set in the future. Main character voiced by Koyasu is code-named Aya, named after a legendary assassin.

I lol'd.

Note, it has not been confirmed or denied if VU is the future of WK.
kurenai_tenka: Tenchi-Crackkurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 04:08 am (UTC)
Well, I think if it's past the point when they'd all have died of old age, then even it being in the same world doesn't count for much.

But logically, and in fanon, it probably will be. XD;
Drubyd on September 23rd, 2007 04:12 am (UTC)
Yeah. Most of those who see this sentence thinks maybe one of the characters are related to Omi: "Velvet, alias V, who is the granddaughter of the superintendant general of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police recruits criminals (who have excellent abilities) to the underworld in order to have them execute outrageous villains cut loose by the court system and who are beyond the realm of arrest."

XD; All the characters are listed on the main site: http://www.velvet-uw.com/chara/index.html

There's a Birman! Pawn! And "Lynx" would have fit as a name for the original WK... :]
kurenai_tenka: KH mass love.kurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 04:21 am (UTC)
..wtf to the 'Fake' design. XD

I suppose we have to hope it is related then, otherwise it proves the man has no originality.
(Anonymous) on June 4th, 2008 03:41 am (UTC)
I read somewhere that in Episode three it has a flashback of what happens to Aya in the end of Gluhen so I'm pretty sure it's related. Plus it makes sense when you read the summary of it.
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on June 4th, 2008 04:01 pm (UTC)
Yeah? Might be worth watching that episode atleast anyway....is it the same as the Side B storyline?
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 03:31 pm (UTC)
....and I've just discovered..

Velvet Underworld is one of the episode titles in Gluhen. XD
Drubyd on September 23rd, 2007 06:45 pm (UTC)
And I think "Velvet Underworld" was the WK season 1 intro theme song? 8D
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 07:05 pm (UTC)
Lol, really? XD I've never actually seen Kapitel's OP/ED...they weren't on my downloads. ^^;

So either it IS the same world, or Koyasu has no originality left. 8D
kurenai_tenka: Fai-Gay and sparklykurenai_tenka on September 23rd, 2007 04:07 am (UTC)
...I've heard about it, but not that part.

That is indeed, rather lol worthy. XD;

Well, if it's any help, Aya apparently didn't die and was resurrected in Koyasu's "Weiss Side B" manga with Ken.

Dori: XF - wunderkindcleo_eurydike on September 24th, 2007 02:40 am (UTC)
okay, you may not like my response
I thought that it was a bad series in the first place, I was only watching it because I was in love with Koyasu Takehito, and then the show made me feel like I was losing intelligence. The ending ending made me laugh if only because - like you said - it made no sense, but I was pleased that Ken was in jail. At least the justice system works, yahay! Then again, I never liked the characters and had no idea who they were accepting orders to kill from. It sounded very mercenary-esque and I'm not down with that. my "Spooky Mulder, aka, Serial Killer Catcher" icon will speak for me.

Also, that annoying little brat Omi became the Godfather, and colder than ice, and that freaking rocked. Not that I like people like that, but it was totally not what I was expecting. I was impressed in a good way. I thought that the writers were going to chicken and have him like, repenting for all his sins. Way to rock, y'all.
kurenai_tenkakurenai_tenka on September 24th, 2007 07:57 pm (UTC)
Nah, I want to hear different opinions.
Hmm, I don't think it counts as the justice system working when he's in their for fun. ^^;
I don't think the concept was bad (referring to the 'who they're taking orders from' comment), although it's easy to find discrepancies of logic. I did like the story at the core anyway. I suppose as a Koyasu fan, it must have been bad seeing that you don't think much to his writing. ^^;

I quite liked him too, but after seeing the ending, my opinion of him has dropped a little...

' The Godfather' is a description epic enough to heal the wound of it. XD I actually liked Omi, and whereas the 'repenting' thing would've had me making sick sounds, this was worse. I mean, I don't like sad endings, so it was never going to work for me...but with no lead up or point it was just stupid.
